26 PAINTINGS MAKE AN ALPHABET
The Abaca Group, one of the most respected brands in the city, thanks to their top-notch and premiere restaurants, got in touch with us to make art for the launch of the Abaca Baking Company. They wanted the new bakery to deliver a fresh message that said they were a Cebu neighbourhood brand – warm, friendly, welcoming.
They asked us to play around with the clipboard menus – one of the first things customers get to hold – and we agreed to paint on them and thought it would great to make a series of artworks where each one was inspired by a letter of the alphabet. The ABCs of the ABC.
THE WORK
A- Airplane, B- Boat, C- Cat, and so on.
Every piece that we did for the Abaca Baking Company – clipboards, murals and packaging, revolved around the idea of making people feel a sense of wonder and childlikeness.
A – the feeling of Adventure (close you eyes), B- of being Buoyant, C – being Carefree.

EVERYTHING ABC
The characters started to grow from the clipboards and out into the walls.
And the elements from the at were applied to coffee cups and packaging.
GOOD VIBES FROM THE MEDIA
” So far as the look of the Abaca Baking Company goes, The Abaca Group connoisseurs will notice that the bakery is a bit of a departure from all The Abaca Group establishments that came before it. Sure, there is the same Abaca Group formula of warm wood and sexy lighting, but there is an injection of color and whimsy through playful murals and clipboards hand-painted by local design studio, Happy Garaje. With the Abaca Baking Company, it’s as if The Abaca Group has decided to be a kid again. “
Cebu Daily News
“…there’s hand-painted art on the walls and the menu clipboards courtesy of Happy Garaje, a creative studio based in Lahug co-founded by couple Mark and Johanna Deutsch in 2009. Next to the food, their work has become the unforeseen star of ABC.”
